Yes, you should organize something. My first one had 10 people, now we're getting around 30 + total sign-ups.

You're absolutely right. This is at least the second year where I've found myself in this same basic conversation. I'm a far cry from NC, but I'll try to get something going for early spring in the Pinelands of NJ. Even if it just ends up being me and one other "competitor".

There's no reason why only Cali folks should be having that kind of fun.

There was one done in MPLS a while back. Most of the loops or out and back trails I pick are of the beginner/moderate variety. We've done some seriously technical trails though. Loop style are great for spectators, and if you have people or bike gas out they don't have too far to walk.

I ride a loop in the pine barrens called Mt. Misery. There's no actual mountain, and the most miserable part is the sugar sand (and the deer ticks in midsummer), so it'd probably be pretty nice for a CBChallenge. If anything, front brakes make a jaunt thru sugar sand harder (only if ya use 'em). The loop is like 11miles long, or something in the slightly more/less than 10mile range.

Now, I'll probably just modify my worksman for the ride, but if i only had an Article One to build up instead....

This is like the drift racing of the bicycle world.
Just because you can't hear them scream doesn't mean they don't. Save a plant, eat meat.

    # 3 There Will Be Barf

Meet Point: Starbucks Topanga & Lassen 7am bat time.

    9935 Topanga Canyon Blvd.

    Spectators: 6

    Meat Pylons: 3

    Breakage: 6

Loop style, some technical stuff, some steep but short climbs. Each lap around 2 miles, 10 laps. Plenty of bushes to barf in on trail. Easier endurance gearing recommended.

I'm working on the east coast "coaster brake" race.

We will be having a mt bike race at a totally new venue for our area this summer in northeastern Pa, "Race da Rocks at Hunlock's" located near Wilkes Barre Pa. A "Coaster Brake" class will be included. As soon as I get the date from the landowners I will post up a thread as I don't want to hijack this great thread.
