Damn I'd love to do this. But I gotta move on the 4th, race the Cream Puff on the 10th, be Guide Coordinator at Mt. Bike Oregon on the 17th and wash my hair on the 24th. Shite.

    P.S. $20 for a patch... now that's a good deal.

P.P.S. That Monarch repro springer fork is way cool!

    Badass.

I often wished that I lived in a community where things like this happened.

Well, there wasn't an event in my area until I set out to do it. The first one had 10 riders, now we're up to mid 30's. All you have to do is make it happen....

I have dreams about no brakes. Just throwing the foot between the back wheel and the frame, like the old BMX days. They I wake up. But this seems cool too.

Fair enough. The tough part is that I am only one of three in my area even riding SS. Guess that's a start, though.

I made loaner bikes and that seemed to help. I've been doing cycling events out here for a decade now so I guess that was an advantage. The key is not to give up.

Duly noted. Thanks, man. I will work to see what I can make happen. Rep +

The widest hub width I see on velosteel is 120mm. What are gonna do? Crossbike or spacers?(dont know if the latter is possible)

I can't find a 135mm coaster hub in the single speed variety for the life of me.

    Anyone got a link?

You won't. But there is hope. I have 185 mm cromo axles that you can put in your hub and thus space it out for a modern frame...

More communities should do things like this. I feel lucky to live in the Portland area where there are over 80 local shops and seems like an event going on every weekend if not multiple ones...often having to choose which event your going to participate in for that day.
Life's journey is not 2 arrive @ the grave safe but rather 2 skid in sideways totally worn out shouting "Holy S what a ride!"

Ahh, There is an easy solution! Do you add spacers on both sides of the hub? or only on the drive side(to not throw off the coaster arm reach) and dish the wheel accordingly?

Do you have a pic of yours? I am very curious and interested in building my 1985 schwinn up with a coaster break.

    Thanks man

    From J & B importers:

    HUB CB KT E-TYPE AXLE 185mm 24TPi
    Brand Name: KT
    Supplier Part # HU985CPZ
    UPC Code 072774201037
    HTS Number 8714.99.8000

It's lugged of course, a q/r coaster would not be practical.

it's got 120 spacing. what you'll have to do is space the wheel a little closer on the drive side. Next, you'll
have to bend your torsion arm in a "z" or zig zag pattern so you can attach it to the frame.

I don't know if these have a 10000 mile break in, but I could never get mine to lock up. I'd buy a couple of cheap and dirty shimanos over velosteel if I had to do it again.

This race series sounds awesome. Wish I were closer.
