    check out my new ss!

took out my new duty ss for her inaugural ride on sat, christmas eve. the gearing felt stiffer than i'd expected so my original plan of luge loop didn't seem like such a great idea. ended up doing a whitting loop. was still worried about mustard, but made it up no problem. i guess riding my julie in middle ring helped after all! rode aliso on mon & barely made it up cholla. lost my line once & had to sit for a few minutes at the top to catch my breath!! i got my arse kicked on that one! looking forward to giving it another shot soon! what a blast. i think i dig this ss thing!

I'm not familiar with that. Is duty the brand? Model? What size is it? It looks tiny. Stock or custom?

The silver parts look great! Are those pink Chris King hubs? How about some more pictures when you get a chance?

i think i dig this ss thing!
    It only gets better.

denis duty is a local builder in oc. i'm told this is some of his finer work, too!! i think the frame is 12 or 12.5". custom built of course!! <big smiles>

almost went w/black easton stem & seat post. glad you like the thompson. tks! the whole bike was colored around the pink ck hubs/headset. i'll post more pics.

    Looks good but...

One question. Why do the chainstays look excessively long? Seems like he could have put the tire closer to the seat-tube? Were you looking to maintain a certain wheelbase? It would seem like it would affect the out-of-saddle traction. That being said I am not familiar with the issues involved in building a frame that small.

As long as you love it its all good =P

    Thanks for the additional pics.

The water bottle cage is one of the first things I noticed. I was thinking, "How the he!! does she jam a water bottle into that tiny frame?" I sometimes get annoyed trying to grab my 24oz Gatorade from my 17.5" frame.

Here's what you need to match your headset and hubs:

    Preciosa (beautiful)

Could you please give us more details on the frame? I have a kid looking for a very small frame so he can jump to 26" wheels and convert his 24" to SS.

The chainstays are std 17" and this was done to maintain stability on the descents. I think visually they look long on the frame, b/c the top tube is 12". The option of running a larger tire, if desired, was also a consideration with keeping the chainstays std, although based on her height/weight dims, I don’t think she’ll ever go larger then the 2.1’s.

Sorry I can't recall the overall wheelbase dims, but can provide this later if curious.
The overall dims on the frame were setup similar to her SC Juliana, with a couple adjustments.
The head angle is 71° and the seat tube is 74°, which was done to give a little more fore positioning while seated and help offset a little stress on the knees. The goal was to sacrifice a little of the climbing prowess for more stability on the descents, but I think the bike is still going to climb very well.

We can put you in touch with the builder, if you're interested in finding out more about the dims, process and etc. Just send Tink or myself a PM and we'll give you the info.
