the cheap, light & effective solution

Why was I fretting over the weight of a new ride? I have a bike I like that is sub-22#. Yeah, I'm sure the folks on 29er's would like to tell me all about how much faster, easier and better I might be on a 29er but if I can't overcome a lack of speed, endurance or technique by improving the motor on the bike then I shouldn't be complaining. If anyone wants to argue about that, may I direct you to that wall to your left... feel free to talk to it all you want.

So, to solve my "problem" I'm going to do this... I'll replace the 10 year old brake pads with new ones, get a On One Mary bar, a new stem and either new elastomers for the Manitou 4 fork or a new fork.

As for having something to commute on... sounds like a perfect job for the 18 year old Raleigh "olympian" hybrid I "retired" at the beginning of the year. At least it got the summer off.

    wow, that feels good.

    lightness

interestingly enough, i don't mind the heft of a bike. My secret bike is a 5lb steel frame. Hefty wheels. and lots of love. The lightest I have right now is my Pacer...but I odn't know how much it weighs.

    Just me

I love buying new bikes, tinkering withtechnology, and riding whatever is around, which is usually really nice.

Don't hate me because my bike is beautiful.
