Chameleon, horizontal dropouts and disks w/o adaptor?

Looking into getting a Chameleon however Im a bit confused.

It has horizontal dropouts and you can still run disk brakes? I was under the impression that this could only be dont with custom adaptors, something that I dont see on the few pics I can find.

Anyone want to explain how this works and any drawbacks to the system?

    Thanks,
    Evan

It's because the Chameleon can also use gears when the appropriate parts are in the dropouts which keep the wheel in a static position similar to a normal dropout so discs can be used. i used mine as singlespeed and didn't have any problems though but I made sure the wheel was in the geared position by using a half link otherwise the part of the pad would not be in contact with the disc.

    Good job! Lizard

My Chameleon ('03 model) is running SS and disc. No problems whatsoever! There is enough adjustment in the horizontal fork ends to tension the chain, the wheel and disc pull straight back out of the caliper, etc.

Go for it, you'll love the Lizard!

i have converted two of them chameleons to ss with disc. i also run two of my bikes disc with horizontal drops. slotted disc mounts or an ecc bb would make setup a bit simpler but i say, it is not necessary.
i just don't have the level of 'game' that would notice any alteration to rear brake performance! lets face it, the front is the one you really need.
as for premature pad wear, i have been running disc for a full season and no visable pad wear...go for it!
