    Chainring ?s

I have an old Jamis Explorer I converted into a SS and everything on it works great, but I now have come across a parts bike which has some nicer parts I was thinking of throwing in the SS. In particular, I am looking at the crank, which is a Shimano LX (older 110mm BCD 5 arm). I was wanting to find a good singlespeed chainring so I could go ahead and match it up with the Shimano DX cog I have out back and then run a BMX chain for extra strength. Currently, I am running a 32/18 ratio which works great for the steep hills where I live.

So, first, I want to know if a 32T ring is available in 110mm BCD. A quick search of a couple online retailers shows me they dont carry them. I do realize you can only get so small with the older, larger 110mm bcd 5 arm cranks.

If a 32T ring is not available, I think I will go with a 36T ring and then switch to a 20T cog out back since that gives me a 1.8:1 gear ratio, which is close enough to the 1.77777:1 ratio I currently have. Either way, can anybody tell me where is a good place to order a cheap chainring. I really dont like the idea of spending $30 on just one ring. I would be perfectly happy with a steel ring if those would be cheaper, especially since they are long lasting.

Thanks in advance for the help.

I think 34T is the smallest possible with 110mm

    Salsa singlespeed chainring, $23:

    34:19 (1.79) is even closer to 32:18 (1.78) than 36:20 (1.80)

    Cool-blue Rhythm

I think I paid www.bikeman.com $16 for my Salsa ring.
I gotta roll, can't stand still, got a flame in my heart, can't get my fill.
