    Chain Length Calculators?

Is there any kind of formula I can use to determine how many chain links difference there is between different gearings?

Example - if I go from a 32:18 to a 38:16, how many links would I need to add (if I need to at all)?

It's approximately 1 link per tooth. However that doesn't account for the difference in angle between the cog and ring, which for a same-length chain will move the wheel forward a bit (or BB backward if EBB) when you're running 34x16 as opposed to 32x18 for instance.

If your wheel has room to move forward (or BB backward) right now in 32:18 then 4 links seem good. Otherwise you'll have to add 2 more and the wheel will end up a little further back (or BB forward).

    Just think Convert!

And the best part is that it's Mac OSX compatible (along with windooze)
