    Building SS before gears arrive

I just had a bit of a think about this, and I'm interested in others opinions on whether or not this is a good idea.

I'm currently ordering a bike in parts, slowly, over the months, as my race bike. The target is 9.8kg with no carbon - the major components are already on their way or to be ordered next month.

However, I was going to leave the gears and dérailleurs until later - I want it built for the start of November. That got me thinking - why not build it as a singlespeed in the meantime?

Might this cause any problems to convert later if I were to do this? I know some will see this blasphemous, but be assured I plan on building a SS as my next (2008) project.
