Budget steel frame vs. budget aluminum frame

I've been riding SS almost exclusively for about a year on a Kona A'ha bla bla bla. I'm ready to buy a SS frame that fits me a better and doesn't weigh so much. I've been looking at the Zion SS frame and the Soul Hooligan. The Zion is steel and the Hooligan is Aluminum. The Zion is cleaner looking (I'll be using disc breaks) but the Hooligan is a tad lighter and about $50 less expensive. Both have EBBs and the top tube length I think I want.

I need some perspective from you all on the whole Alu vs. steel thing.

    Thanks,

    Mark

I have a Curtlo steel SS and a Homegrown 6061 geared aluminum hard tail. The Curtlo is a better ride, but the Homegrown is lighter and stiffer. In my opinion it is really personal preference on what kind of ride you are looking for.
