boone bash (OT - non-ss photos)

Sorry for the non-SS pics. I thought some of you may be interested though.

A few months ago I posted this. It was briefly in my hands and is now on my bike.

If you want one too, contact Brett.

How do we contact Brett? I want one. No, I need one. Does he make them for other crank sets?

It looks great of course, partly thanks to the oddly long XTR arms.
I wonder, did you buy it just as an outer chain guard, or really as a bash guard? The distance beteen the XTR arms being so long at the tip, and the guard so thin...I wouldn't want to hit a log* with my full 185lb, imagine it would hit between the arms... Is it stronger than it looks?

*(disclaimer : I don't ever really ride log bigger than my thighs.)

I designed it so that I could use it as I typically use a bash ring on my mountain bike. My very simple SolidWorks stress test showed moderate deformation under a 170 pound load.

I wish I still have the movie so I could post it here, but all my model files that I backed up to DVD have been corrupted...a huge loss for me when my computer crashed a few months ago.

To further explain my own use...I rarely ever hit the bash when going over logs and I wanted something that would take the place of the big ring (which I never use) and would protect not only the middle ring, but also the extended arms of the crank. I weigh about 205-210 in riding gear and can typically get over logs up to 26" or so without too much difficulty. There are those times though when I'm off and need the protection and I never intentionally use it to grind over a log.

    Just a quick update...

I was screwing around on a big log yesterday and came down hard on the bashguard. Expecting to have munched it, I was surprised to see that it was completely unharmed. It seems that it's tougher than I imagined it to be.
