    No good Bianchi Chrome Monstrosity

Is the Bianchi SASS in freaking chrome the only model and color available this year. I kinda liked the SISS in the understated flat color, steel frame, but Christ... why the hell are they doing it chrome plated?

... and if we just ...

So they could have another acronym. I'm waiting until they come out with the cream colored one with corn and carrot bits painted all over it. They'll call it the Puke Ugly Single Speed, aka, PUSS.

I liked the chrome at first, but now I don't. However, I do like how they come out with unusual colors though. I thought the brown and gold of years past was the grooviest.

    not bad

They have one at the local bike shop here, and it's not too bad. i have the celeste CUSS and love the color. some people even comment on how much they like or hate it.

but what is nice is the chrome pista. the fixed gear road bike. the LBS has sold a few of those.

Chrome is so old school it hurts my 6 spd friction deore thumbshifters and the look of the bike just about knocked my off my fisher fattraxs. Back in the day a lot of the first mountain bikes were chromed, the first GT's, the mongeese and the redlines, they were super cool, but I guess you just had to be there. Buck up new-school I'm sure they will be back to super flexy aluminum, ("puke ugly SS), ssingle sspeeds soon, but I will never give it the time of day. Steel is real and chrome is super-fly-mack-daddy-pimpin' old school and isn't that part of ssingle sspeedin'?

I've never really been a chrome fan. I much prefer the subdued (dull) look of my '03 Pista

    Chrome is awesome; that's all.

One more thing: more XC mtbs need to come in clearcoat/raw steel like the BMXers have. that is awesome too.

    dislike the chrome too

I'm waiting to see what next year brings before I buy a Pista. Chrome is okay, just doesn't work for me.

Now...something in a burnt umber??? Are you listening Hurl?

One of the guys at my LBS...

... mighta put it best. We were talking about bike fashion and how a couple years ago the stealth all black thing was hip. He said, "Silver is the new black."

    I had to laugh.

For us old schoolers who've been riding since the early '70s (okay, late '60s), we remember when you could get components in any color you wanted, as long as it was silver.

Fashions come and fashions go. If your stuff is out of fashion right now, just hang onto it for a while. It's bound to come back into vogue, whether it's chrome frames or silver (or 3D violet) components.

Best example? How 'bout HW's new Pimp Daddy Pink Curtlo frame? Remember when pink frames were cool back in the late '80s?

Buy what ya like and hang in there.

We don't quit riding because we get old.
