Any alternatives to Chris King SS hub lockring?

I damaged the lockring for my Chris King SS hub. AVT has them, but they're $40. That's ridiculous! Are there any alternatives?

Is the lockring proprietary? My LBS has like 200 of those kicking around. When I stripped the threads on a Surly lockring I just threw on a Deore one and was good to go.

Yeah I've got a generic one on my SS hub too.

    How about a gearclamp instead?

The king lockring is proprietary because it threads onto the outside of the freehub and looks really clean with their special spacers. But I think that the last SS king hub I had also had standard lockring threads as well. You should double check the freehub. Otherwise, yes you will need the special one. You bought the mercedes of hubs, why would you think that replacement parts are cheap?

The CK SS free hub body has same thread as BSA Bottom Bracket cup so you can use old "BB lock ring" for sure.

I used to run it for speedy cog change (no need to chain whip). Hope it helps.
