    2004 Specialized P1 Frame build-up

got offered a 2004 Specialized P1 Frame with forks and cranks

thinking about building it out to an SS ...

read all the reviews; tough frame, lousy forks

any thoughts ... is this a worthwhile endeavor? i would need to do it on the cheap

    i'd be using it to
    1. ride with my 8 year old son when he's on his bmx, both urban and trail
    2. trail riding solo in SoCal
    3. essentially, fun, fitness, a little mayhem

i'd want to build her up with used parts

    i'll need

    stem, headset, bars and grips
    levers, brakes, brake lines
    wheels, hubs, tires
    chainring, sprocket, chain, pedals
    tensioner?

what do you think my build cost could be, trending down of course, and is it worth it?

i.e., would i be better off converting a complete bike to a SS and selling off the the parts i don't need?

    spanks!!

There are better options if you're just looking for a ss to tool around on. Sell the P1 frame and buy a complete single speed bike. Generally it's never cheaper to build up a bike from parts.

I agree with this, I built up my first SS with some of the most least expensive, yet not total crap, parts I could find and still ended up spending a few hundred dollars more than you can pick up a Monocog, GT Peace or something in that range for....
