I use a 640 flat bar with bar ends on my 26er (100mm 5 degree rise stem) since it gives me a comfortable position and make climbing easier. Though I have difficulty to control it on some more difficult technical territories. What would be a good compromise? Thanks.
Your stem is very long. I personally hate long stems, they make the front of the bike feel like it's wandering about. Try a stem half that length and see how that feels. You might be surprised by how much it changes the handling of the bike.
There has to be a balance between height & comfort. Fit is important as bar height. If your hands go numb after 20 minutes what good does it do to plan a 12 mile ride? Your weight should be balanced not riding on your hands. Taller stem or riser ars take care of that problem. Lighten the front end can be a matter of adjusted technique.
