I'm getting into maintaining my bike that I've had for a month, and I've just found out about DuMonde Tech. I'm interested in it for the fact that it lasts a long time, and the claim that you don't need to clean the chain after the first application. I have some questions about it though.
1. What needs to be done as far as cleaning the rest of the drivetrain (cassette, derailleur gears, etc). Does this fall into the "don't clean" category other than a simple, dry wipe down?
2. Can you use DuMonde Tech on the derailleur pivots and fork suspension?
3. The instructions say to put on one drop per link the first time you apply, but does that need to be done for all future applications? Or is continuous dripping while moving the chain good enough?
1. I generally just clean those items on an as-needed basis. When they look dirty, I clean them.
2. I wouldn't. Seems like it would make a mess.
3. Every person I know that loves DuMonde Tech (myself included) takes the time to apply it correctly by using just one drop per roller, then very thoroughly wiping off the excess. I usually do an initial wiping off, let it sit for a few hours, then wipe again. This keeps my chain nice and clean.
Continuous dripping is for lazy sloppy people. It wastes lube and illustrates a person's inability to slow down and pay attention to details.
Everyone I've ever met who doesn't like DuMonde tech is one of these lube spoogers. They don't like it because they aren't doing it right.
