I'm getting into mountain biking in my area and I'm looking for a good entry level bike no more than 830$. The trails in my area are fairly technical so I was wondering which of these two bikes would be better for single track/ technical trail riding. I like that the pitch has 27.5in wheels that are easy to maneuver but still big enough for mtb. Thanks for your help
It would help to ride them in and out of ditches and on the grass for more info. Trek has some of the best steering geo among 29ers. My Superfly is slightly faster steering than an X-Cal and pretty much perfect. No way would I give up 29 benefits for a smaller wheel/tire. I suggest going for a deal on a '14 X-Cal 8 or a '15 X-Cal 7 which has an upgraded fork like the current 8. A good fork is a major component for riding technical trails.
