Hey so I just found the above bike (similar to this:

Cannondale Rush SL with Upgrades and EXTRAS Size S | eBay

But it has Manitou air shocks and X7 components.

But it's a Large and I'm exactly 5'8" so I normally ride a small - medium bike. It's being offered to me for a pretty good price for 400 dollars.
It feels a bit big, but he has about a 100-120mm stem on it.

Do you fellas suggest anything to try on it before buying it to make sure fit won't be an issue? Think I would be ok with just replacing the stem? The bike shop I checked in with said they wouldn't recommend it, what do you guys think?

Thanks

5'8" on a large? Bike shop is dead on. That bike is too big for you. Replacing the stem with a shorter one might help, but go too short and the steering will be affected by it. If you have a long torso, it might work. FWIW, I am 6' and ride a large with a 90mm stem.

Very low probability you could make it work...but
You will have to take a 70 or 60mm stem over and swap it on with your multi-tool for a test ride. Your lbs has a box of used stems. Maybe you can borrow one. Ride on the grass and in ditches for better handling info.
