The official name for them is a Roll-Off system. They are very common in motocross. They have a thin layer of film in the right side canister, and the left one has an empty spool that you actuate by pulling the little string with the black plastic deal on the end. You advance the film when your lens gets muddy and you have a clear strip of vision again. They're pretty cool, but they don't have anywhere near the field of vision that you have with a set of tear-offs. They are also fragile. If you wreck and hit your helmet, assume that you will have to get new roll-offs before the next mud race.
Nice thing with this system? You don't litter the damned track!
I hate seeing tear offs laying all over the mountain....
