my bikes are pretty quiet,,, usually maintain them quite well, though this year we both on new bikes so quieter still lol. specially with the clutch mechs, but then i suppose when you ride as slow as i do any bikes gonna be quiet lol.
My Glory is really quiet. Don't get any chain slap noise or wierd knocks. I always clean the bike after every ride with complete care to detail and lubricating all that needs it.
My Faith was pretty quiet. Only the brakes made sound (i needed to clean them but was too lazy).
After going to Northstar a few times this season, I heard some obscenely loud bikes from the lift, that were rattling, clanking, and making all sorts of sounds. I thought they were going to fall apart right there... Nuts.
My last bike wasnt. The '13 Canfield I just built is. Anyplace a cable/chain can touch/slap I have velcro/rub strip, amazing the difference that makes.
Well it all comes to the drive train.......And mainly the position of the chain stays and in some cases the rear end of the seat stays as well....
I have switched 3 gravity rigs n the passed 6 years....
06 Stinky
10 Faith
09 Session 88 FR
The stinky Was the most silent and the faith sounded like a metal box full of forks and spoons on the trail....
Padding those seat & chain stays is a good idea as well but as shiver mentioned smoothness is the main key.....
As a kid i rode smooth on that old Stinky.......
But now all the work and business wont let me ride more often nowadays and i have lost my smoothness............. Or as shiver well said in his signature....
i have lost the trick and im wasting time .....
After all this was a post after such a long time being far from MTBR.........
