Considering taking a spin on the Whiskey 50 course this weekend. Want to see what all the hubbub is about - without paying dearly for the pleasure. However, with DIY, comes lack of support.
Does anyone know if there is water anywhere along the way - on or near the course?
Also, I have a gpx from 2009. Has the course changed any since then?
I didn't race it in 09 but I believe it's the same course. If you need to you can refill with water at the Skull Valley turn around. When I prerode it the week before the race I did it with two big water bottles and a 70 oz camelback and had plenty of water to spare after.
They added some new single track sections I believe, in the area we overlapped the whiskey course on the PMC. I have a 2010 gpx file of the 2010 whiskey that might be of help. (PM me and i'll email it) there are also plenty of them on garmin connect too.

You can do what I do for big rides like this, go the day before and stash some water & Beer where you think you may need it. In this case you could easily do it the same day or have someone meet you along the dirt road somewhere to give water. Caution when having someone meet you, it is very tempting to get in and give up if you are very sore and tired.

I rode the 25 course yesterday and had only two bottles and a back up fuel belt bottle. I probably would have drunk more if I had it, but conserved a bit and was fine. Only water, other than multiple streams, is a water fountain at end by Thumb Butte.
Course is easy to navigate other than gets a little tricky on 327, but I used the local map and only stopped twice to check I was going the right way.
Weather was perfect. Have fun on the climbs!!
Oh duh - there is a store in Skull Valley at the turn around spot where you can get drinks and snacks!
