I was looking at my Shimano large chainring and noticed that the teeth are not consistent, meaning some are less sharp or duller than others. Am I doing something to cause this, or is this just a manufacturing thing?
Yes it's normal. The "sharp" teeth are to facilitate better engagement of the chain when shifting b/t chainrings.
