And the only time you might want it locked out is if your climbing. And that totally depends on how the suspension performs on the climbs, i.e. under heavy pedaling forces, and how tend to climb, whether you spin up the hill or tend to mash the pedals. If the rear starts bouncing up and down as you climb up a steep hill then you'll need to lock it out. If not leave it open and let the suspension do it's job.

"Google" is Your Friend.

Is it an RP2 http://www.foxracingshox.com/fox_tech_center/owners_manuals/08/eng/rear_shocks/float_rp2.htm

Or is it an RP23 http://www.foxracingshox.com/fox_tech_center/owners_manuals/08/eng/rear_shocks/float_rp23.htm

They both lock/unlock the same, the RP 23 just has adjustable "Pro pedal" valving.

There's also an RPL, but that has a 3 position lockout lever. http://www.foxracingshox.com/fox_tech_center/owners_manuals/07/eng/oe_custom_products/float_rpl.htm

No one seems to have answered your question.

Propedal [locked] is to the left
Open [fully operational] is to the right
when looking at the lever

....because you can't just say "left" or "right" on the switch. it depends on how the shock is mounted.

and as for when you use open and locked out is a matter of terrain and preference.

my first reply answered his first question....how does he tell when it's locked out...when the shock won't compress.

WTF! Did you even try to open any of the links from Fox's website that I provided in the post just before your's?

Can't get much clearer than the manufacturer's site W/pictures can you?
