why can't a hardtail run a double crown? i want to get a jr t for my marin rockyridge, but everybody tells me that it will snap the head tube. i just don't get why it will.
Because your bike is for xc and it was designed for 3-5" fork ..anything more then that stresses your headtube and probably voids your warranty, not to mention head angle problems......your bike is is not intended for much jumping and drops... which is why I assume you want more travel...some hardtails are made to run DC....just not yours.... look at the Banshee scirocco or morphine and look at the differences between the frame...
edit...
the marin rocky ridge (if its a new one) is a "aggresive XC" bike but i think they're built up enough for a pretty good beating. dont think they could quite hhandle a dual crown. i had a marin quake 9.0 with big ol gussets and such and managed to crack the head tube off with just a four inche single crown on it. and again like they've said it'll mess up your geometry a reasonable amount

just like they said. also if your smooth enough nothing will happen, otherwise just buy a strong frame like morphine(unbreakable) or a .243 those are some solid bikes.
