hey guys, got a couple dings in my fork about 4 inches up the tube, they arent jagged at all, just wondering if they may damage anything internally like a seal or something. could i cover them with some kind of paint or something to smooth it out. fill the little nicks etc.
it won't hurt anything internally but it will make the travel feel sticky when the fork compresses across the scratches. If it is an open bath than little amounts of oil will get in and dirt will more easily get it. It's a bust but I'd start looking for a new fork. Personal opinion. peace
Take it to your LBS, they will most likely fill it with nail polish or super glue or something like that, then file it down and polish it so where the scratch isn't even there anymore. It isn't something I would try myself unless I was very skilled and confident. But I would take it to them before you start looking for a new fork.
