Just tought about a question that might be the most stupid ever, but here we go.
How about heat tolerance of a downhill frame made of aluminium? Is it gonna ruin anything with the frame? Heard someone talking about painting a frame and some heat treatment.
Depends what kind of heat you're talking about, leaving it out in the sun in Arizona, don't worry. Putting it in an oven around 400F, you're gonna have problems (who he heck puts their bike in with a pizza I don't know).
If you weld something on it, you're going to lose the heat treat in that area. Painting won't do a thing to it. Heat treat is a total material treatment, not a surface coating.
They're talking about powder coating. Frame needs to be "cooked" to melt the powder to the frame... The lowest temperature that the coater can use should be used.
Anything hotter than 400 deg. will temper the frame and weaken it AFAIK.
