sorry about xposting in suspension forum im here at work and its 2am and i wanted to finish it before i left....i wanted maximum input. Anyway the top cap is the only thing i havent removed is that whats holding it on?
The stem can now slid off, followed by the crown. If your stem is an integrated type (bolted to the crown) then obvioulsy they'll come off together.
You can then fit the bumpers and refit the crown/stem. You will, of course, also now have to preload the headset bearings again. Do you know how to do this?
Hmm no i dont know how to do this..... i just tightened everything back the way it came off. Does the topcap bolt have anything to do with preloading the headset bearings?
Don't forget about the Bolt that tightens down the steerer tube on the top crown. And you don't need a hammer to get it off, just a little bit of brute strength should do the job.

I think The Orange Prophet was being facetious.
Curler,
Check this link to Park Tool for setting your headset.
