So I have a 2008 Stinky Air, which Kona failed to put ISCG tabs on. It has a 73mm BB shell, which means only one spacer on the drive side bb. Therefore, I substituted the BB spacer for an ISCG adapter. I'm using '08 XT cranks with the chainring mounted inside of the spider and a bashguard on the outside. I'm also mounting up the e.13 SRS guide. When everything is tight, the small chain ring mounts rub the back plate of the guide causing the cranks to not turn smoothly. I'm hoping to avoid grinding the crank tabs down. Any fixes?
Try flipping the ISCG adapter around. Most ISCG adapters that I've seen/used have one side that is flat and the other recessed, try using the flat side out.
Hey Mqt,
My 2006 Stinky is more or less the same for a chainguide setup, so here is what I have.
ISCG bb mount flipped inward followed by a 0.5mm disc brake caliper spacer (they're perfect for super tuning chainlines) and then the Wide angle backplate.
The Stinky has dropped chainstays, so while the standard angle version works the WIDE angle version fits JUST right.
Since you are running a single ring chainguide up front, the only real way to get it to clear properly is to remove the granny tabs. This is extremely common in the DH race circuit, and most of the time doesn't ruin resale value either. If you do end up taking down the tabs, the fastest and easiest way is to use a big old drill bit and drill them down perpendicular to the cranks. Soft aluminum goes quick, so just take it easy and clean it up with a file or some sandpaper.
*edit* Just so you know, the LG1 and the SRS use the same backplate, so spacing should be very similar. Your spacing will also vary slightly with different types of cranks. I have 2006ish Truvativ Holzfellers.
