Dude, come on Mr. Naysayer. I've been following the progress of the neck brace for a while now, mostly on moto sites as that's my other 'hobby/addiction' and I've NEVER heard of someone breaking their neck from a sideblow with the brace being the cause.sq225917 said:great until you fall off, don't hit your head, but impact the side of your brace sideways and it breaks your neck for you.
I suppose it doesn't really matter but, what helmet do you run?CountryBoy said:It won't work good. I run mine with the rear slammed and still hit it with my helmet all run long.
I think he was going with the knee brace theory. It wont break your knee, but it might break your leg!sq225917 said:great until you fall off, don't hit your head, but impact the side of your brace sideways and it breaks your neck for you.
I'd rather be sick for a week than drop $400 on a shot.Clutchman83 said:How many people would get a flu shot if it cost $400?
The flu has the potential to kill you too sooo there ya go. I guess I feel that when you crash, it's because you either make a mistake, take on something that is above your skill level, or are accepting to attempt something at such a high level of difficulty that failure is always a possibility.. No problem with that, that's how we progress, I crash all the time . I would like to own one and I'd like to see everybody out on the trails wearing one but due to the cost I think this is going to be more of a luxury item for recreational MTBers. I'm sure it will become a standard for the pro's though. I could do $225, just $400... thats a lot of bill money in the difference there and it sounds like the cheaper version isn't gonna work well for us. I'm sure it's worth scrounging for a couple months for the safety aspect, I'm gonna look into it myself. I just wish they could get the price down a little more, I'm sure you'd see lots more people running it if it wasn't so spendy. This is a recreational sport for most of us afterall, not professional motocross.DHGnaR said:I'd rather be sick for a week than drop $400 on a shot.
Better question is if you had a higher chance of getting shot (think cop, military), would you drop $400 on a bullet proof vest? F*ck yes I would.
Same goes for the brace. We have a higher chance of neck injury than a lot of folks, $400 isn't much just in case.
It'll matter. The bike specific helmets dont hit as much as a moto helmet while downhilling. However he's worn both with the brace.ender said:I suppose it doesn't really matter but, what helmet do you run?
How many people who are paralyzed would pay 400 for the neck brace just to have the chance for surviving the wreck if they could go back in time....people would pay 50 to 100,000 to have just the chance of survival if they could go back in time right before the accident and have a neck brace instead of being without one.DHGnaR said:I'd rather be sick for a week than drop $400 on a shot.

man key words...be350ka said:I have the leatt and wore it all last season. I can honestly say that I had only a MINOR limitation in head movement while in STEEP sections. In 99% of the riding that I have done I experienced NO limitations.
I think that it is best to give the new brace a try with your current helmets. Find a dealer and try one on. I read somewhere that this "cheaper" version is designed more for the DH community. So, that would lead me to believe that it should work pretty well.
FWIW, I don't think that $400 is too much for this type of protection. I posted in another thread a little while ago about a crash that I had this summer where I could almost swear that the Leatt saved some agony on my part. The two or three days post crash were painful enough even with me wearing the Leatt. If you can swing it, pick one up. You never know when you will need it until it is too late.
This seems promising. I hate wearing my full-face at places where, let's be honest, it really isn't necessary (think Santa Cruz). But I also hate the idea of umm... BREAKING MY NECK.Q: Can I use the Leatt-Brace(R) MOTO GPX for downhill mountain biking?
A: Yes. In fact you may use it in any sport in which you are unrestrained and using a full face helmet or a deep profile open face helmet that covers your ears.
This is pretty much the only open face MTB specific helmet I can think of that would fit the description in the braces instructions.cactuscorn said:im thinkin no. im sure they mean a open face hat that comes all the way down to the neck, kinda like the (now thankfully almost extinct) auto racing helmets.
Those soft sides are simply velcro covers to cover up the screws that are used to change out the clamp extentions for fitment. I dont see how they would do a lot for you when the material is only a fraction of an inch thick.sq225917 said:if side impact isn't an issue why is there most expensive Moto version built with soft sides specifically to tackle this issue.
