I am wondering if it is possible to turn my E-13 SRS chainguide into a LG1. By looking at both models, it seems that the backplate is the same on each. Both my SRS's have the pre-drilled holes to mount a taco, and it looks like the top portion of the LG1 will mount right where the SRS top piece mounts.
Has anyone done this? I am considering changing up the SRS to a LG1 on my Bottle Rocket, and if I can just pick up the LG1 parts tree and mount it to my SRS backplate it will save me about $80. Here is a link to the parts tree, I am sure most of you know what I am talking about.
Sweet! So is the conversion as easy as it sounds? Do I need more parts than just the LG1 parts tree? I noticed that the tree does not come with rollers/wheels. Do I just use the ones from the SRS?
You can use the pulley from the SRS, and the LG1 parts tree should be mostly everything you need. The tree doesn't come with all the nust / bolts to my recollection but send e13 an email and they can fill you in on what you might need.
Hey thats some good info! I will try to contact E-13 today and get some specifics. I believe the picture of the parts tree from different websites only show the tree coming with two bolts/nutts. Thanks for the heads-up.
Update.
I just spoke to a rep at E-13 about this question. From what he told me, they manufactured all models of the chainguide from 2006 on to be inter-changeable. He stated that way you can switch up from race-day to ride-day form a SRS to LG1. It all makes sense to me. Now to decide if I need a Taco or just go without one. From what I have seen, the Taco breaks easily. And for $35, the same as the full size bash, it does not seem worth it. I might just be running the top tree and roller.
Hey guys,
The SRS/LG1 were designed to utilize the same backplate, as everyone has mentioned above.
To convert to the LG1, you can purchase the LG1 parts tree, and it comes with all the additional bits and bolts to convert from an SRS. You reuse the lower roller pulley bearing.
Also, to keep some cash in your pocket you can chop up your old Supercharger bashguards to fit. You can use a picture of our production Direct Mount Taco as a guide. A hacksaw/file is plenty for the job, just watch your fingers.
On a side note, the Taco is actually designed to withstand a huge amount of abuse as long as you follow the torque specs (4.8 Nm or 42 in/lbs). The easiest way to achieve this is to hold the short end of an "L" shaped 5mm allen wrench and tighten as much as is comfortable.
mtb_biker & philw86 - Thanks for the information on how to re-use an old supercharge bash to make a taco. My friend and I have discussed it and not it seems like an easy option as we have 4 or 5 of these supercharger bashguards laying around.

Thanks guys for the advice/help!! This is what makes MTBR awesome! I just pulled the trigger on an LG1 parts tree. It should be here by Wed of next week. I found a killer deal at ebikestop.com, like $17. Jenson and others had it listed for $45-$60. ebikestop also does Paypal, which is schweet!
If this conversion goes smoothly, which it should, I am going to order another tree and convert my DH bike over. Sawing the supercharger in half to make a Taco is a phenomal idea! Thanks to all who mentioned it. I could make the Taco larger by sawing a supersharger in half, right? Not that I would like it much bigger, but maybe a little bit.
