okay, the last time i got to go to whistler was two years ago, ive been too busy to ride much lately but i just got my bike out of storage and im tuning it up because im super eager to try out the new collonade park under i-5 here in seattle. anyways i remember in whistler my wrists getting super sore. i have a monster t fork with 7.5wt oil and no matter how soft i set it my wrists were sore. is this because i dont ride much and my wrists arent used to it or can i make my fork softer, problem being i weigh 185 and i like it how its set now as far as how easily it bottoms out. Keep in mind this 8 year old fork doesnt have as many adjustments as newer forks, but what can i do to make riding a little less hard on my wrists?
you need to ride more and build up muscles in your forearms and wrist......gym workouts will help and I recommend you doing the alphabet with big letters twisting your wrist to form letters......do the big A and and do it forwards and backwards that is one letter.....I bet you are tired by T
adjusting your fork is not necessarily the answer. some motocross gloves offer wrist support which probably would sort it. also if that doesn't work you can get special shaped grips that are suppose to help with end/bottom/ of you arms/wrists. finialy holding the handle bars at a different angle could help.
I wouldn't recommend any kind of brace as that will only hide the underlying problem.
If any of the other recommendations dont work try a new Hbar with a different sweep.
My hands and wrists tend to only bother me when I'm riding DH in really choppy terrain. From what I've seen of the colonnade it's not really DH riding, more just DJs, berms, rhythm sections, more of a slopestyle park.
Riding is really going to be the best help. I used to be able to do 25 min downhill runs with out stopping and with out getting tired to the point where I'm making mistakes, now after a 7 month hiatus from riding I can barely make it halfway through a 3 min run at speed without my hands and wrists aching to the point where I have to stop. I've been riding 3 times weekly for the past month now and the problem's still there. Just gotta keep riding and build those muscles back up.
If riding a lot again isn't possible, then exercise those muscles as much as possible.
More often than not, you're gripping too hard, its not just that it fatigues your forearm muscles but also the joints in your wrists. Loosing your grip also helps you keep more control over your bars too .. just so you know.
Ride a moto once a week and your arms will build up! In motocross we are told not to lift weights because it teaches your muscles to pump up and the will do that when you ride. So just ride and let them build themselves up.
yea i only really get it after a day of choppy dh, otherwise im fine. i know collonade wont make them sore really, just wondering if its me or the bike i need to work on before hitting whistler again this summer
try masterbating.....that keeps the muscles good on one side..he he he
