I just bought my first real bike...a Specialized RockHopper Disc...I think I got a good deal on it...and also bought a Kurt Kinetic fluid indoor trainer and a helmet to go with it...I can't wait till the snow melts to take it out for a spin...
I was deciding between the Rockhopper or the Gary Fisher Marlin...I found that the rockhopper fitted me better...maybe it's because of the 0.5" difference in the frame...but I just feel more comfortable overall...and also...the Rockhopper disc was $100 bucks less than the Marlin disc...
I too was deciding between the Marlin and Rockhopper, but I went with the Marlin disc. Probably would have been happy with either, but an LBS had the 2008 Marlin in my size, which save me $200 versus the 2009.
it all comes down to fit and price...I think the components are pretty similar for both bikes...and a beginner like us won't be able to tell the difference in the short run...better save up some cash to replace parts when we crash =P
Thats my bike too.. shes awesome. Nothing but great so far, surviving a BMW 3-series and all
