I just got the 10mm axle kit for my I9's to run the DT 10mm thru bolt skewer and notice that at the end where the drive shell is it's 10mm but at the opposite end where the bearing preload cap it's bigger maybe 12mm, definetly bigger than 10mm. I look through the axle and it's 10mm about half way through and then gets bigger. Just seems like it would make sense for it to be 10mm straight through. Is this right? or do I need to give I9 a call and check? Thanks and LATER!!!
10mm (a tad larger actually) should be the ID of what you're installing in the hub. I'm guessing the OD is stepped to accommodate two different size bearings. It's normal for the OD to be stepped.
Yeah where it exits at the drive side its 10mm but where it exits on disc side it bigger. I want to say 12mm but definetly bigger. Im talking about the inside diameter. I'll try and get a pic up of what I am talking about. But if you have this set up take a look for me to see if both sides are 10mm inside diameter.
OK, I see what you're talking about. The inside is stepped also, but both ends have a 10mm ID for about 1" on the drive side and about 1/2" on the other. Can you snap a pic?
Yeah doesn"t seem right! I'll have to check with I9 to see if I got a mixed set. Its half 10mm and half 12mm. Oh well I still have the QR axle so I can still ride.
Yeah, about that... I have the 10mm caps on my Sultan and the NDS cap is fits the axle they way you'd expect (i.e. not like that). That definitely looks like they mixed a 12mm end cap in there.
It is one piece. The steel piece in first pic slides on over axle kinda like a chapstick cap but the other end is press fit into axle. If you look through inside of axle it's 10mm about half way steps down and gets bigger the rest of the way. I pulled out the good ol Park spoke ruler and DS is 10mm and NDS is 12mm. I sent Brandi an e-mail to see if it's suppose to be this way so I'll guess I will have an answer on Monday.
Hey, not to get off topic, but how do these work? Has anyone tried them. I bought the pair from SSINGA and a new all blue pair, and am having the worst time trying to get them dialed in. They seem to bind the bearings and cassette when I go to tighten? Anyone else deal with this and please tell me what you did to resolve? I love these wheels (weight, stiffness, looks) but am having trouble like I said.:madman:
To get back on subject, here's what mine look like (the same diameter on both sides).
Yeah, the piece that's wrong (the cap) is pressed into the axle. I was thinking it was one machined piece (been awhile since I had it apart) and couldn't understand how that could've happened. The wrong insert (cap) is understandable.
Well I just got in contact with Brandi at I9 and he said this is the correct axle and I should be fine. Still doesn't make sense to me why it's just not 10mm straight through from end to end. Seems like everybody else has there axle 10mm end to end. But who am I to say Brandi should be the one to know. Oh well! guess I will install and see if I have any issues.
Later!

King - what axle are you using? The black set you got from me NEVER had an issue and I was using a SRAM cassette and a Hadley axle on the 5 Spot. Do they spin freely before mounting in the frame? No brake rub? Cassette isn't extended past the end of the hub axle?
