So i just got my first real mountain bike, and i think the left side crank might be on wrong. Theres a gap between the crank and the frame. I tried to find pictures online to see if this was normal but couldnt find anything that showed the right angle.
So is the crank on wrong, or is it normal?
If its on wrong how do i fix it?
(sorry about the bad pics, but i only have my phone to use)
If you were to take that crank arm and put in on the other side you'd have the same gap. The reason you don't see the gap on the right side (drive side) is the crank has all the chain rings and such that are mounted on that arm. It fills up the space visually. The amount of space that you see between the left side crank arm and the bottom bracket housing of the frame will vary with the brand and model of the crank and bottom bracket. The newer two piece cranks with external bearing bottom brackets will typically have the smallest (if any) gap on the non-drive (left) side.
Don't sweat it, as long as everything is tight and solid, you're fine.
X2 and no creaking noise or loose wiggly............your good to go!
