The 13th Annual Fair Hill Classic mountain bike race will be held on Sunday, July 13, 2008. The Classic is one of the most popular cross-country races on the East Coast and is part of the Mid-Atlantic Super Series (MASS). The Classic has no laps, just miles of constantly changing singletrack with lots of hills, rocks, roots, woods, and fields. The race will sample the best trails in the 5,600 acres of Fair Hill near Newark, Delaware. Tea Kettle, Barney's Trail, Crappy Start, Drunken Sailor, Rollercoaster…remember Crackhead Bob? They're all included in this year's race. We have categories for Novice, Beginner, Sport and Expert/Elite racers of all ages and genders, including singlespeeders. We also give the youngest racers a chance to show their stuff in the popular Kid's Race. Even if you don't participate in the race, come out to watch the action. We will have several viewing areas to set up your easy chair and enjoy the fun and excitement. Great trails, super race, lots of prizes, plenty of excitement, refreshments, fun for the entire family. Mark your calendars now!
It's longer (16.0-16.1miles) and a wee bit harder this year. One somewhat technical section has been eliminated, but a there is more distance and (it seems to me) a bit more climbing this year.
It's fast. Expect 9.5 to 10 MPH average for winning beginner times. There are long stretches where 12-14 MPH requires little effort.
WOW what a cool event!!! The Trail spinners and all of the volunteers did a great job hosting the event. I did not compete myself because I was on call but I did bring my 13&8 year old boys to compete in the Novice and kids events. Also my 14 y/o nephew competed in Novice aws well. Fun was had by all !!
My family lives just up the road from Fair Hill and my wife and kids compete in horseback riding events at Fair Hill a lot as well as many other places in the North East Region and this event was very well put together! GREAT JOB again to all those involved. This positive experience left my kids wanting more as well as inspiring my wife to get out and ride with us as well.
Anybody know when they will post the results? I had to cut out right after the race and did not get to see them. Fun race and a great course. Really well done by the Trailspinners. They should have more of these.
I have to agree with Rob_Sox that this was a great event. I've never raced before but have attended a bunch of races with friends. I race yesterday for the first time and had a blast. The Trailspinners put on a great event. Very well organized, the facilities were top notch, and the course was a blast. I'm looking forward to doing another race, but the standard that this event put in my head will be pretty tough for others to meet.
I think you beat me by 20 seconds then. I came in third in the 45-49 age group. It was my first race and it was A LOT of fun! I'm really looking forward to doing more races.
