Anyone out there have the skinny on WP this DH season? Any new trails/improved trails/ladders? More DH races? Crankworks again this year?
Just curious if there's any more info out there than what's posted on the website. I did a search and found nothing, so sorry if I'm posting something that's already been posted.
2 Lifts open this year, so you can go higher up the mountain on the Olympia lift. A few new trails, Crankworx will be back again as well. New trail construction coming soon...
What he said. Plus if you come up, bring a hardtail because there is an awesome skatepark in town as well as a 2 acre dirt jump park being built in Fraser. So hit the trails on your squish and then shred the gnar afterwards in town on the hardtail.

Yeah, I was wondering what that 2nd lift was. I guess I always thought the main lift (the Zepher) took you all the way to the top. Where is the Olympia lift, I don't see it on my map. Does it take you over to the Mary Jane side??

Yeah, I noticed that on the map when I was going to hit mountain goat last year. I looks like you have to go UPHILL on Little Vasquez or somehow cut across to Lower Arapahoe to get back to the lift, but I could be tottaly off-base.
Yes, you have to ride up and a long way back to the base if you ride mtn goat. Lots of pedaling for a relatively short trail. If you take a dh bike to that trail, and you're wearing dh gear, the pedal back will cook you like a fried egg.
The second lift that will be open this year - Olympia Express - on the backside enables you to finish Mt Goat and then have a short ride to the lift - very little pedaling. No longer do you need to climb out back to the base lift - Zephyr Express. This was one of the primary reasons we opened this lift is to open up the backside trails w/o having to get back to the lift cooking in your gear.

I'm mostly an all-mt. guy and I am pretty sure that its over a half mile of uphill just to get to the olympia lift unless there is a new cut in the trees.

There will be a new exit that takes the trail to the road ~100 vertical feet higher than the old trail end. As a result, the first section of road back to the lift will no longer have to be climbed. Everything is being done to reduce pedaling as much as possible. Unfortunately the lift locations are fixed.
I came up Vasquez the other day and I timed it from the bottom of Mountain Goat to the warming hut right above the Olympia Lift and it's a good 10 minute uphill ride. The only part you don't have to pedal fairly hard is about 150-200 feet right before you get to the lift.
Mountain Goat
10,700 top elevation, 9,625 bottom elevation, 1,075 vert drop, 2.39miles
Mountain Goat is the most technical and challenging trail on the mountain. The first section starts with steep, technical turns that merge into rock fields with 3-4 foot drops off large slabs of rock. The lower section crosses streams and ends in a tight, fast straightaway on rocky double-track with a couple of minor woops.
Maybe if WP was to build ACTUAL dh trails, they could hold an ACTUAL dh race. Unless I've missed an ACTUAL post, no one has ACTUALLY said WHAT winter park has committed to building this year, other than opening that second lift.
I said I like pie. What else do you need?
btw,
I'm not a decision maker at the resort. I just shred the gnar.
And I like bmx.
