Can anyone give me help with new rim choice. I have just trashed my first rim, mavic 325 up front, and i need to build up a new front and rear onto my hope hubs. i have been happy with the 325 but after seeing them split at the join, one of the pins was sitting on the outside of the rim, I am considering something else. I would prefer a light front and stronger rear. My rear rim is a Halo freedom which has been ok but it is also due for a change. I was originaly thinking of 325 front and 721 rear but after seeing my 325 split I might think of something else. I like the look of the DS28 but no feedback yet. My last choice is the Funn rims as my friend works in a shop and get his grubby mits on a set for less than a 325.
325's are entry level and cheap....might want to try 823's and go tubeless.....a solid strong rim
one thing....how did your last rim brake....was it only at seams or did you have loose spokes....make sure bike has tight spokes at all times...because any rim will brake if you don't do maintenance
325s might be entry-level and cheap, but they are also strong as hell. It's the same rim Mavic uses for the DeeTraks, which are a pretty tough wheelset. If you broke a 325, you would have probably trashed just about any other rim out there. Aside from being overly heavy, they are the best budget rims out there and much stronger than the DS28s, which are just a re-branded version of the Halo Freedoms you already have. And of all the rims you mentioned, the 721 is the only welded-joint rim. The others are pinned or sleeved like the 325s are.
I dont think any rim would have survived my adventure, not even my shoulder made it through. I can't say i am disappointed with the 325 at all and i think it makes a solid front wheel. I was just surprised to see it part at the joint and see the pin sitting on the outside. I went with the 325 when I was comparing it with the dt 5.1, it is way cheaper and i wouldnt say it is heavey when compared to most other rims. I wont be looking at tubeless for now and not the 823's.
Any word on Funn rims?
I like my ds 28's but at only 110, I dont break alot of stuff
