My brain has come to a boil as i try to decide which to get. It will be my second year of college next year. so far i have been using my gf's computer or the ones at school for my class and homework. i also want to get me a dedicated freeride rig like the versus blitz II or something like that so that i could finally go up to the mountain and have fun. so what do you all think i should do:madman:

Compromise - buy a cheap computer that has enough power to run the few applications you'll need for school and have some money left over for the bike fund. Most computers come with far more power than you'll need if you're truly interested in getting one just for school and internet browsing.

If you can find a super cheap one with no OS installed just get Ubuntu and Open Office and you'll be set for probably a few hundred bucks worth of hardware.

i use to always do my work in the labs on campus. the computers were great, i didnt have to buy ink or paper for printing, and studying in the lab was more efficient for me. if it were me id get a bike. I love my laptop now but i never had an issue with not having it.

Sorry, I'm going against the grain here, I'm a second year college student and I have no idea where the hell I would be without my laptop. Put your education first.
Then again. I spend too many waste-less hours on my computer while at school. It would be less of a distraction to use someone else's computer. Like now. I should be doing some Spanish homework but I'm too busy farting around on the internet. :) However, I would still choose a computer if I did not already have one.

PS i assume your from NorCal/Nevada mind if I ask where you are going to school?? I'm over at Chico.

If you use your GF's computer, where do you keep all your porn;)

Really, get a half decent computer. For school you can get by with one for less then $1k. You don't need more than that unless you are seriously gaming or in an engineering field. And if the latter is the case, use the schools.

I attend San Jose State University. Major is in Radio Television and Film with a Emphasis on Digital Multimedia.

Yeah the laptop can distract you in class, but when it comes time to really focus for me I turn off WiFi and I immediately stay focused.

I think computers actually make my grades worse lol. About 90% of the time when I should be doing something for school on my computer I just end up farting around and wasting away the hours until the night before its due when Im like oh sh!t that is due tomorrow. Then again I spend alot of time riding my bike that should be used for hw/study time lol.

My girlfriend didn't have a computer for sophomore through senior year of college and she was fine. Plus if you shop around a bit you can get a computer for VERY cheap. Possibly under 500, which shouldn't take TOO much of a bite out of your bike fund if you were looking for a nice FR machine.

Cheap computer plus used FR bike is probably going to be your best bet.
