I could have posted in the shocks forum, but feel you guys are more "in tune".
-165lb rider geared up.
-Bike 07 Demo 8
-Having trouble with getting more than 6 inches of travel from the fork.
-Stock medium ti spring.
-Pre-load backed out all the way.
-High speed backed out all the way.
The normal response may be to go to the next lighter spring, but it feels as if it may have something to do with the oil level. Hard to describe, but a pressure feel. Not sure.
It's a brand new fork with only two rides on it.
Should I check oil level? I would assume it is new and correct.
Switch to lighter spring?
Thoughts?
Thanks for weighing in.

I think you should start off by trying the lighter spring. In the manual it has some trouble shooting guides. All you have to do is see which description fits the catagorie in the troubleshooting section. I highly doublt its the oil level. I think you may be to light for the stock spring.
I don't have a fox 40, but I would think if your getting some sag with the current springs, and it feels plush, It's oil level. If it doesn't sag and feels a little harsh in the small stuff, change the springs.
My first guess would be your spring.First of: unless if you have replaced your spring ,I don't think its a ti-spring.The fork is an OEM fork and they come with steel spring (could be a different story depending where you are though)
Second,if I'm right about your spring its probably a green spring which is WAY too much for your weight. You need the blue spring. You should log on to the Fox site and follow the instruction on how to replace your spring (very easy and you'll know right away which one you have in there)
I am the same weight as you and I run the green ti spring. It has no sag in the driveway but on the trail it feels great. This might be a crazy question but have you made sure the travel spacers are in the correct place in the right fork leg? You can reduce travel by moving the spacers around. I believe full 8 inches of travel will have 4 spacers on top of the spring.
Can you get proper sag? If yes, it's oil, if no, it's spring.
No trying to call you a moron, but you never know. You say you've backed everything out, are you sure you it's backed out? You could be running fully damped fork, explaining your problem.
I have 40rc2's and weigh around 175lbs. It not very often i hit full travel. The last time was the other day but that was a 4.5ft stair drop to flat. When i was messing around in a quarry this wend there was a drop of about 6ft. This still left about 2 inches left. The trans was nice and steep. Just my expierience with them. Do they feel harsh when you ride and have you ever bottomed them?
It is an oem and I should have verified the spring before posting. My bad, I intend to tonight as soon as I get home.
Yes, it feels very stiff. A couple guys heavier than me did a few hucks and it felt way stiif to them too.
I've got other Fox forks, so I'm sure about the high speed and pre-lead being set "soft".
I spoke to Fox today and as it is OEM, who knows what's in there. It's a small frame, but could have a green in there.
Thanks to all who posted. I know it's a simple issue, just wasn't sure where to start.
More thoughts are welcome. In fact If I get a new spring, what has anyone heard on the ti "GO RIDE" double springs?
Green spring in there, who would think on a small frame. Anybody know where I can get a Ti Blue. Go Ride uses a two spring deal, but not impressed with having to stick a 3" piece of PVC down my new fork leg.
thanks, should have checked b4 posting.
