Alright, I've got $600 to spend. I'm looking for a FR/AM/XC hardtail. Also a hardtail to mess around a little at whistler when I go this year. then able to tackle the bike paths and light fire roads in Bend this summer as well. My Mountaincycle is just too small, I'm 6' and the frame is a 17" but with a 22" top tube.
Jamis specced the bike with a 150mm stance flow, so I think they were designed around FR. Theres just not a lot of info out there on them, anyone use one for aggressive use? I can get the frame only for $169.99 and I really like the geometry. Seems that this is like the perfect frame. I'm just not sure how it will hold up to FR. my riding style for this bike will be more AM/XC than anything. just want to be able to hit anything on it.
So I'm comparing a build on the jamis, to what I was considering buying a 2006 ironhorse yakuza bakuto. which I'm sure is better for FR and DH, but probably sucks at XC. Also frame VS complete. I will be able to build the jamis like I want it. the yakuza is very close to what I want. I would be able to have a better build on the Komodo. But how will it take FR and light DH abuse? looks really beefy, but the head tune concerns me a little bit.
I would swap parts from my MC to the Komodo, but with a few upgrades.
Heres the Komodo
And VS this for my "do it all bike"
my build would be very similar to that on the stock picture of the komodo.
does anyone know anything about them? I just dont want to put myself at risk. I would probably just run my 130mm dropoff until I got a Pike. I think it would be a hot build.
What do you guys think?
The Bakuto will cost me $650.00
The Komodo only $326.73
I think I'm heavily leaning twords the Komodo
