O.k., so it's 2007 and the craze of 1.5 headtubes has hit us. They are being replaced on several bikes and are chosen over the 1 1/8" headtubes. The question is, does this changing make any difference? Have frames quit snapping today, are 1.5's better, or does it really make a difference? Personally I don't think it matters because they are both strong in their own sense. There is more pulling on a 1.5" because it is farther out, but the welds are bigger so that compensates for the extra stress. The exact same is opposite for 1 1/8's in a sense that the tube is out much less so there is less stress and the welds are smaller so I don't think it matters. If there are any real cases which can prove or disprove 1 1/8" headtubes you guys write down your input and let us know what you think.
