I have ridden a Bullit, and a stinky. I am in the used market, 1500 or less.

I want to try my hand at DH racing and have a bigger travel bike for tahoe/downyville (I ride a superlight now)

Any reason to lean one way or the other?

Any other suggestions?

When you say "lean one way or another" are you only considering those two? If that's the case, ride what feels better. If they both feel the same to you, then buy the "best bang for the buck". I'm not too familiar with those models, but I'm sure the Kona and Santa Cruz boards are full of likes and dislikes.

I am open to other suggestions to try out and ride.

I am just not familiar at all with DH bike specs, but trying to read and learn. Especially since I am trying to balance something that will let me get into DH'ing, but still pedal some trails. I know trying to go between two types of bikes, I will compromise. In that area, I would like the compromise to favor the DH side, not the AM side.
