I placed an order for some Cree XR-E's and holders, which they indicated were in stock. That was March 5. I haven't been able to contact anyone via email, through the email sent confirming my order, the email confirming my paypal, or the email form on their website.
There are a number of threads on candlepower that speak well of them, and I know it's coming through customs here, but ouch, I kinda want my stuff. Anybody have any experience, godd, bad, or ugly?
Usually you'll receive an email when it is sent - I have purchased 3 different orders from them in the past, and have an order pending currently. If you specified the Q2 bin XR-E they are still en route from Cree to Cutter, as I understand it.
I went with the group buy on CPF for the Q2 bin, I ordered a set of P4's to experiment with on my first go around. Assuming that the sure thing would be here first.
Thanks, that provides a little confidence that my ~$60 isn't just gone!
Placed an order last year for some Q2 LEDs and other stuff. I specified to them to send the order when all items are filled. Obviously, the Crees were back ordered. I have had no problem communicating with them via email. A fella named Mark Riley has been very helpful. I recently received an email indicating the Q2s will ship soon. That was 2 weeks ago. This is my first order with Cutter but multiple threads here and on CP indicate a repuditable online vendor.
Instead of starting a new thread, has anyone here ordered from Kaidomain.com? I'm in the same boat waiting for 3 Crees and 3 SSC's to show up. Getting sick of waiting... Anyone have any experience with them?
Edit: So to follow up with that last post, it turns out that Kadomain returned half the money from my order on 3/26 because of faulty product quality. Not sure if it was in reference to the SSC's or CREEs, but I'm disappointed nonetheless. Anyone know of any group buys that can deliver relatively soon?
I placed an order with cutter recently. It took just over a month to arrive, and I was shorted two lenses that I did order. In almost two weeks time I have heard nothing from them about taking care of the mix up, and have no faith that it will be corrected.
I placed my first order for parts from Cutter late last week. I too have been in contact with Mark and apparently the XR-E Q2 bin LEDs were in stock at the time. I haven't had any confirmation but I am hoping that the parts can be shipped this week.
Regards.
I actually placed an order for 3 with the US distributor - arrownac.com. I wasn't able to tell which bin the XR-E were, as the part number was a kit, and according to Cree's website, sometimes the kits contain multiple bins.
Mark Riley was on one of the emails, and I think Ben (can't quite remember now) was on the paypal email addy.
Sill awaiting, I have too many orders out there right now, all of them are going to show up on my doorstep, then I'll have a couple Q2's, P4's and some mystery meat from Arrow.
i've ordered through them, and the communication was pretty slack. Got the feeling the business is basically two brothers working out of mum and dad's garage.
Good luck to them I suppose, but I just can't believe you guys in the US have to order through a little backyard business in suburban Melbourne, Australia. Ha ha, it's very weird you guys don't have some kind of mega 'led-city' store over there.

I orderd some SSC's from them on 3/29. They are in transit right now according to their system. I should have them this week. I will post back once they are in hand.
Agreed - the reason I chose them was their tech info on the product, actually giving you the option to purchase different bins. arrownac.com is right here in Phoenix, an their info on the XR-E didn't quite match that given by Cree, so I was a little concerned about purchasing very many, not knowing what I was getting. I'll use them as my build up/prototype units. According to arrownac's website, the binned unit purchasable qty was 1,000, a few more than I needed.
You know, we're the nation of 6,000 pound Ford Excursions and Super Wal-Marts, but don't get me started on that.
But it is the folks down under that had the foresight to say "can the incandescent bulbs" and move to something a little more progressive.
that's right, incandescent bulbs will be banned in Australia by 2010, so it will be interesting to see how LED's compete with flouros etc. anyway getting off topic here but i reckon leds have a bright future rolleyes: worst pun ever!).
Cutter tends to put things on their site that they don't have in stock. I added a bunch of stuff to my cart and checked out as if things would be shipped immediately. After a month and a couple of emails, they told me the stuff I ordered was out of stock. I waited two + months and finally told them to cancel. They had no problem refunding my money. I don't think I will buy from them again though...
If (when) I order from them, based on the posts here, I think I'll contact them to check if the items are in stock and if not, when they expect to have them. If they are not in stock, I might not order.
Since they are in my home town, it'll just be a local call, though I'll probably email as well.
I've purchased from them before. They are fine to deal with, I've spoken to Mark on the phone many times and he is only too happy to help. The main issue is, as highlighted above, you can order things off the web site and pay via paypal and the actual item may not be in stock. They do not post the stuff until the order is complete so you have to wait. I got impatent after a week or so and gave them a call, they're like "oh yeah, we got your order, we don’t have that particular thing at the moment and they're on back order" I just asked for a different lense and it was posted to me that day.
There is no problems with them, I guess their communications could be a little better that’s all....remember its not ebay its a small business.
I now ring up, make the order and pay with a credit card over the phone, I guess that’s one of the benefits of living in the land of Aus
Even if it does take awhile, now that I know this info, it's a better deal. Waiting for 2 weeks not knowing anything is completely different than being told they're backordered for two weeks.
Just found out that arrownac.com only does qty of 1000 with the Cree's, they refunded my credit card, and said sorry for the miscommunication. They do carry Osram products in loose qty, but was hoping for the XLamp.
Pretty crazy, I have to order from an outfit in Aus to get a product from and american company. And I am 'bout 8 miles away from arrow electronics, huh.
It would be nice to call, it's just that 03 code at the beginning of the number that jacks my cost way up - skype anyone? google talk, maybe?
Well guess I am one of the lucky ones.
I only live about 80k's from Cutter and when I place an order with them over the phone, Mark always gets the package in the mail that day, vrrrrrrrroooommm
I always get my packages the next day.
My experience with Cutter has been fantastic so far.
I e-mailed them early March and they got them 2 weeks later: no explanation for the delay.
When they eventually arrived, one dome had been badly re-glued onto the package, and two other devices had solder on the star PCBs ( as if some private binning was done ).
I will not order from them again.
Why cannot CREE supply through the usual distributors : Farnell / RS / Digikey ?
