Anyone ever build a slalom type bike or a 4x out of a hardrock? on a budget? What components did you use and how did it work? What was your total cost?
Never done it. I have seen a couple of those frames built for DJ/Urban riding. They are actually really tough. I would think it would work pretty well. Check Jenson for a cheap Rhynolite/deore wheelset and run a bunch of deore and hussefelt stuff ad get some BB5s/BB7s and you should be good. Run whatever fork you have, it won't make a difference for a beginner racing slalom. In fact a cheaper fork might have a little extra pop in the jumps.
