Hey guys I was wondering if any of you guys use a kona cowan(or any of that series) or a specialized p. bike to do downhill or freeriding. I am looking for a new bike and by the description of the bikes the mention freeriding a few times. Is it reccomended to do this, or is the design suited for jumps only? If you have have some pics, I would like too see
thanks
little search will do you fine...lots and lots of guys use P. bikes for freeride...a few even throw a DC fork on them...so yea, they will work fine.just try searching, youll find tons of answers.
I do 10 foot drops on my p.3 and only use about 3/4 of my travel. It is more of a Dj bike but It can rock the DH. Plenty of my friends ride Gnarly DH with there 100mm hardtails.
I ride a P.2 for DH and FR. I wouldn't recommend a long travel fork. get something 130mm and under to play it safe. but I ride my P. series very hard. some people use the kona's as well, they hold up just as fine. but they dont have the lifetime warrentee.
I use a 2005 P3 w/ 06 Vanilla 130R and it is great for DH/Freeride. The only time it comes up short is in Rockgardens. Not alot of clearance...OUCH !!!!! But other than that it does the job.
I used to use my kona stuff(same frame as cowan) for everything. It did pretty good for downhill, could keep up with most. Had to invest in some hand grips though, it's a rough ride.
I'm usually one to bash other preferences, but DC on a P.series or Kona DJ bike would be completely retarded and a waste of money. If you really like hardtails with DC think more along the lines of Evil Imp., Banshee Morphine etc etc. A P.series with 130mm is plenty for what you are describing.
