Well I just got myself an explorist 500 and now I need to get a mounting arm to put it right on my headset. Does anyone have anyr ecommendations of something durable but also low profile. Ideally i'd like it to be hugging the headset or the bar as closely as possible.
I have an Explorist 500 also, and I just zip tie it to the stem with a section of an old tube folded up between the stem and the GPS unit.
You can even reuse the zip tie by depressing the tab with a small screwdriver to release the zip tie.
Don't do the standard RAM Mount, it's screw-on. Same with the holders from Garmin, they always leave a thing on your bar even when youre not using the GPS. My solution consists of a RAM-cradle, a Lumicycle QR (Electron QR's are a bit better for heavy GPS'). Bolt them together with a M5/M6 stainless bolt and nut, a rubber ring in between to prevent slipping et voila:
