I`m 180lbs (81.6 Kg) and would like to upgrade my Thomson (330), which is 234g. Does USE make a post in that size? Is carbon recommeded for my weight?
Thanks.
Thanks.
USE makes an aluminum seatpost in that size, in many different colors.top_ring said:I`m 180lbs (81.6 Kg) and would like to upgrade my Thomson (330), which is 234g. Does USE make a post in that size? Is carbon recommeded for my weight?

You're in luck cause I have a superlight project in progress that needs that size seatpost so I have some research.top_ring said:I`m 180lbs (81.6 Kg) and would like to upgrade my Thomson (330), which is 234g. Does USE make a post in that size? Is carbon recommeded for my weight?

Bikeworld.com has a USE 26.8mm Aluminum (actually more than one) in stock as we are discussing this right now. I just spoke to them about this size yesterday. They don't sell either the carbon or the Ti in that size though--if that's what you are referring to.Boj said:You're in luck cause I have a superlight project in progress that needs that size seatpost so I have some research.
USE doesn't come in that size but from my memory it does in 25.0 which would need a shim, but in the end shim + post aren't the lightest and its also a very expensive post. Easton EC70 is in that size but not much weight savings over Thomson. Tune starstruck is 188 g for 26.8 x 360 but maybe a bit hard to find however in the end the lightest is Extralite the post and mine came in @182 g for 26.8 x 360 mm.
Hope that helps.
my ec70 26.8x350 is 211g (208g w/ a ti bolt). but that is a lot of setback compared to a straight thompson. USE does make an aluminum 26.8x350.Boj said:You're in luck cause I have a superlight project in progress that needs that size seatpost so I have some research.

Post (new 2003 or 2004 not sure) in 26.8 by 330 mm size and it came in at 217 grams (sorry no picture this time). I also have a Thomson layback version in 26.8 by 330 mm and it comes in at 237 grams.AZ-X said:post yourslef? Weightweenies says that the 2001 model weighed about 207g and Thompson claims 209g for that size on their website. I'm not questioning your veracity, I'm just curious--it would also be a great idea for you to update Weightweenies if the weight has changed that much! Do you know what year your post is? What color is it as well?
and to my surprise it turned up at 234 grams. (no pic). I too had been to the WW site and checked on weight before I confirmed a whopping 234g. Color is black - not sure of the year but looks current. Perhaps Thomson will take it back under the auspice of false advertising? LOL.AZ-X said:post yourslef? Thanks for the comments and info, Jag. I'm only going to be able to check in periodically. I have to be honest and say that I've been scouring the forums for information lately because I'm helping a friend rebuild his bike so it's closer to a 20-21lbs weight. My time is very limited these days, but sometimes I am able to work entirely from home (like today) and those are the days that you'll usually see me posting.Jag said:Post (new 2003 or 2004 not sure) in 26.8 by 330 mm size and it came in at 217 grams (sorry no picture this time). Hey AX-Z are you going to hang around more often or are you still busy with your real life... would be nice to see your input more often..
Oh BTW I wish I had a nickel every time some one spelled Thomson with a "P"....

It should come in under 190g for the aluminum 26.8mm.

I'm not sure that I would use a carbon one at that rider weight...
