What happened to the Noleen real deal thread? I was posting a reply to it yesterday and it dissapeared. Well here's the jist of my reply. You can adjust the compression damping by varying the air pressure in the damper leg. More air pressure, more compression and rebound damping. I run about 10 psi more than the spring side. Also; to get a super plush feel lube with Slick Honey.
how's the actual weight on that? got one showing up via ups tomorrow.....
i'll be running disc, so i'm assuming i can remove the v-brake mounts. anything else to save more on it with? what about the lower foot bolts? possible to replace them with ti? or are they some proprietary fitting?
replacing my rigid on my SS; too many years of riding rigid taking a toll on my shoulders/arms/upper back now! i think it's only going to add a half pound to a pound or so........
Stock with the longish steerer its 3lb 1oz. The lower bolts at the bottom(?) control the rebound and compression, so I dunno. Have yet to take either of mine apart. A dude over in the Shock boards thread took the internal spacers out of the air chambers for more volumn(=more linear action)and said that reduced the weight as well. Yes, the v-bosses can be removed. I also took off the bigass plastic aircaps for some little alum car thingie caps like you can see in the pic below. Saved about an oz. there as well.

great; thanks! yeah, i figured the foot bolts would be like that, but thought i'd see..... jonesing to get it and ride it!
i think the weight gain over the rigid i've been using on that one won't be too bad, then. mostly been using a stock surly karate monkey fork, and it's about 2.5# or so!
sad thing is, my geared ride is actually getting a beefier fork than it has now, and it's going to gain a full pound or so!
I dont know how the air system is on these but on my mars elite I took off the air cap and replaced it with a plastic cap from a schrader valve tube. Saved like 12 grams.

This is my last year on this fork before I buy the 2005 Skareb Platinum when it comes out. I need some anti bob tech....Unless the 2004 goes on an awesome sale.
I just weighed my stock plastic air valve caps and they weigh about 9g. Standard plastic schrader tube valves work fine and they weigh 1g per pair...
My fork, completely stock with a star nut installed, 210mm steerer (will be cut), caps and brake posts in place weighs in at 1408g. I'm sure that I'll lop at least an inch off the steerer and remove the v-brake mounts and caps. That will loose a minimum of 28g just for the caps and v-brake mounts...
The fork looks promising... Stanchions are just HUGE! They look especially big because of the white color and black and white stickers... Makes my steel frame tubes look extremely spindly.
I'll give a ride report after my wheels arrive from Mike and I get it all built up.
Isn't there a Europeon version of this fork available with a different name like Aerosa or something? Is this the basically same fork that came with that Motobecane bike everyone was talking about a year or so ago?

Man I love this fork. Been on one solid since Jan. 4 races too, the last being that Pisgah Death deal. I've abused it bigtime. Its been bullet proof. 3lbs, plush, stiff, and tracks staight and true. Its like a trick question. Got ride of my new POS Sid Team(paid $458 for Gods sake) after trying this fork in Jan. Better then my 3.25lb 02 Marathon 100mm as well, which I bought last Spring with worn bushings on Ebay for $245, and was stoked at that price even. For $100? Hahahahahah! RST Aerosa BAS. Less travel though (89mm) and apparently they added some material someplace because they're not quite as light. They also cost a lot more. They do have an external adjuster for the rebound though (without needing to shove a 2.5mm allen wrench up the left fork leg).
As to someone elses comment above about the bolts at the bottom of the leg, there's the rebound adjuster and that's it. There's no compression adjuster other than playing with the air pressure and chamber volume.
Tracker: I you may not remember, but I did the same thing with my Mars-1 on my Giant NRS a couple of years ago--and I think someone had posted the idea somewhere before that and gave me the idea in the first place. It's a good weight saving idea and costs almost nothing. There really isn't a durability issue and, if you lose them on the trail somewhere, they are cheap and very easy to replace. Thanks for bringing it up again.
