I had a Trance of that vintage that I built up with lots of high end parts. The Giant rep at the time gave me the frame for free because I used to publish the occasional bike article.
Five years ago I gave it to my younger son for free. I did keep my hand built DT Swiss wheelset for my 26" Independent Fabrication steel deluxe hardtail.
26" wasn't worth the effort to sell it even in 2015.
You can go to the Blue Book of Bikes for a better idea of your bikes value.
If you try to trade in your bike with Bicycle Bluebook, it will only see the year, make and model of the bike. You can try to get a custom quote but it won't really add much. You'd be better off parting it out and sell them on Pinkbike or Ebay.
Thanks, guys. I know this year and build is tricky to price. A good friend of mine wants to buy it from me since I got a new bike, and I'm trying to figure out what is reasonable.
BBB suggests $180-200 for this year Trance 2. I wonder, though, what the above components and build are worth
The bike in total cost me close to $5,000 (labor and parts) which is far from relevant now. Got many years of enjoyment out of it, but crazy how value drops so much.
If you're willing to part it out you could probably end up with more than $200.
But if it's a good friend I say sell it. I had a similar bike (07 Mach 5) that was for the time a really nice build. I ended up giving it away to my brother's co-worker. Twice since I have run into her on the trails and the happiness of having gotten someone into the sport and seeing the bike still in use easily outweighs the couple hundred it was possibly worth whole or parted out.
So all that to say, sell it your friend. You won't regret that choice.
if it is a good friend, either sell it for the couple hundred or give it to them... I came back to riding on a gifted to me old Anthem that wasn't worth that much... but it really got me excited to ride and now I do so frequently.
Upgrades don't really add to the value of a bike when you try and sell it. Those parts are for you to use and enjoy while you ride that bike. Anyone who might buy it ,will compare it to what a stock bike would sell for. Sell to your buddy cheap or even give it to hum.
unfortunately, that bike isn't really worth much of anything to anybody other than you anymore. if it was my bike, i'd just give it to the homie in return of another riding partner...
I just sold my 2010 Trance x2, It was all custom same as yours as I eventually replaced all the parts. I parted it out completely as I had some pretty new stuff on it. I got $180 for the frame, $100 for wheels not quite as nice as yours, and $60 for the dropper post. Gave the drivetrain and brakes to a buddy, and kept the rest for another build. I think you'd do a lot better than $200, even though 26" is dead, assuming the bike is "turn key" ready for the trails.
