I've head and used the term angry bees to describe the sound of loud hubs. Going up a multi directional trail to day with a lot of switchbacks. I told my wife we need to listen for the Murder Hornets. In our parts, we tend to yeild to downhill riders, since that is why we're all climbing any way 😉
Yeah, even the 54t in my DTs are quieter than every other rear hub in my house. they're loud by DT standards, but get drowned out by the sound of tires on dirt. The generic Bontrager, Roval, and Stans hubs on my wife and kids bikes are all significantly louder and harsher. Way back in the day I had some Machine Techs that were silent, and gorgeous. Contemplating a set of blue Onyx hubs now. Long live silent hubs.

I would love completely silent hubs, nothing would be like cruising through the trees on single track by yourself dead silent on a cold morning. I got rid of all my CK's years ago because I can't stand the sound of them.
Need some tuned acoustics in this niche. If something must make a noise, try to make it sound nice.
I hate the harsh sound some hubs have. If I'm behind someone with loud hubs, I might be compelled to either consider rudely passing, or letting them create a larger gap in front of me. Profile Elites are probably the worst. Based on my experience with loud hubs, I agree with the "slow hub" name.
I had some hubs that made a cricket or cicada chirping sound, which was quite soothing, in contrast to the mechanically harsh sounding stuff. No matter how hard I try to relate the CK hub sound to angry bees, it still sounds like metal clacking from within its hollow shell.
I rather have a bell than bring noise. It's more polite. I'm mega impressed by silent hubs.
I like loud hubs, had some "silent" LX ones going back ages, mid 90's. hated them. I like em loud.
