Not sure if/where this had been discussed before so I'm posting here.
Is there an inflator that can be threaded on to a CO2 cartridge, indefinitely, that won't leak? When I'm trying to be minimal, taking only a tube, lever, co2 cartridge and inflator, it would be great not to have to make sure the inflator doesn't go missing by just threading it on and leaving it for many ride to come.
No such thing, it's going to leak down over time. The inflators arent exactly small so shouldnt go missing too easily. I've only lost 2 and that's because I take them off the bike and lay them down, then forget and ends up lost.
Reason is, extremely high pressure being held back by moving parts and rubber seals. They dont leak down quickly (at least a couple months) but they will leak down. I haven't seen one yet that doesnt break the seal of the cartridge on install.
Best way I have found to keep them together is a thick rubberband. That way the valve and cartridge are stuck together by themselves.
Not that I know of, you can use spec swat inflator, it comes with a rubber spacer so it allow you thread the head without piercing the cartridge, the only pita is that you then have to unthread, remove the spacer and thread again to use
Agree with the posts above. I think the best way not to lose them is to find somewhere on the bike to store them and just leave them there. As mentioned you could also tape them together.
tape the inflator to the cartridge. peel the tape off when you need it.
I put a tube, inflator, tire lever, CO2 cartridge, tire plugs, and a plug installer inside an old black sock and strap that to the bottom of my saddle with a Granite Rockband. the sock (or whatever stretchy cloth sack you use) keeps everything together in case something rattles loose.
It depends on the inflator that you own. I have one that lets me store the co2 upside down without puncturing it. It is genuine innovations if you want to google it. I carry my inflator, extra co2, tube, lever, multi tool that has a chain breaker and spare link is inside the pouch.
